South Korean authorities are conducting an investigation into a cryptocurrency scam, according to recent news reports. The police have arrested nearly 30 individuals involved in an $8 million fraudulent scheme where scammers made false promises of large profits to investors. The reports suggest that the fraudsters created their own cryptocurrency and manipulated its price after it was listed on a local stock exchange between September and November 2021. The Financial Crimes Investigation Unit has referred the scammers to the public prosecutor for further investigation. Some crypto wallets have been frozen, and approximately $1 million of the funds have been seized as part of the scam.
