Despite rallying over 40% since the beginning of 2023, cryptocurrency in the US is still down over 60% from its 2021 highs. Recent calls for regulations by high-profile legislators and agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, have put the industry in a precarious position. In an interview with Bloomberg, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong shared his two cents on the current situation. Armstrong acknowledges that regulation is necessary for crypto to mature, but he worries that overly restrictive policies could be detrimental to the industry's growth. He believes that the US is in danger of falling behind other countries, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the EU, who have implemented clearer regulatory guidance. Armstrong sees the clock ticking for the US crypto industry and hopes for supportive and clear regulations to allow it to grow.
