On Wednesday, Shiba Inu developers announced that they are preparing to release the beta version of the Shibarium blockchain's layer 2 network, which has been eagerly awaited. A beta testnet functions similarly to the real-world blockchain. Layer 2 refers to off-chain solutions that are built on top of layer 1s to mitigate scalability and data bottlenecks. These solutions combine multiple off-chain transactions into a single layer 1 transaction, thereby decreasing data load and fees.
As previously reported by CoinDesk, Shibarium's developers have indicated that the blockchain will prioritize metaverse and gaming applications, particularly as the NFT sector is expected to expand in the coming years. In addition to serving as an inexpensive settlement for decentralized applications (dapps) constructed on the network, Shibarium's potential uses include gaming and metaverse applications. Shiba Inu, a meme coin based on the Shiba Inu theme that has since aimed to establish itself as a serious project with its own blockchain network and dApp ecosystem, could benefit from the launch, which would help to establish strong fundamentals.
On Wednesday, the Shiba Inu ecosystem tokens experienced a surge in value following confirmation of the beta version's launch. According to CoinGecko data, Bone (BONE) rose by up to 8.8%, while Leash (LEASH) increased by 4.4% in the previous 24 hours, with much of the gains occurring early on Wednesday. Both tokens are expected to play a significant role in the Shibarium ecosystem. However, the native Shiba Inu token (SHIB) fell by 3.3%, reducing gains from an initial price increase at the time of writing.
