The Ethereum Foundation has launched its ERC-4337 account abstraction standard on Ethereum mainnet through a smart contract called EntryPoint. This standard is expected to revolutionize the way users interact with wallet services by eliminating the need for complicated seed phrases or technical setup processes. With time-locked social account recovery and availability on every Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible network, the new standard offers features similar to those of a bank without the need to trust one. The standard has been in development for two years and was funded by the Ethereum Foundation, providing a decentralized alternative to centralized solutions like Argent and Gnosis. Yoav Weiss, an Ethereum Foundation security researcher, believes that this standard will make it easier for the next billion users to access and use cryptocurrency wallets.
