Digital Currency Group (DCG), a conglomeration of cryptocurrency businesses, revealed a $1.1 billion loss for the previous year as it struggled with falling cryptocurrency values and the reorganization of its Genesis loan platform.

According to DCG's fourth-quarter investor report, "the results from last year reflect the impact of the Three Arrows Capital (TAC) default upon Genesis, in addition to the negative impact of [bitcoin] and crypto asset price reductions."

CoinDesk's parent business is called DCG.

According to the study, DCG had total assets worth $5.3 billion as of December 31, 2022, when looking at the company's consolidated financial sheet. Just $262 million in cash and cash equivalents were included. A total of $670 million was invested in investment assets, including tokens, Grayscale trust shares, venture capital, and fund investments.

According to DCG, the remaining assets are largely controlled by the divisions Grayscale and Foundry.

According to a DCG spokesman, the value of the venture portfolio and all investment assets have been marked to market.

DCG had $143 million in revenue for the fourth quarter but lost $24 million. For the whole year, total revenues were $719 million.

DCG had a $2.2 billion equity valuation, or a share price of $27.93, in its yearly independent stock appraisal. According to the research, "this evaluation is typically consistent with the sector's decrease in equity values during the same time of 75%-85%."

Notwithstanding the difficulties of the previous year, DCG claimed to have "reached a milestone" in the restructuring of Genesis, citing a non-binding term sheet agreement including some of the principal creditors.

The arrangement postpones the maturity of DCG's approximately $600 million (at current market values) May 2023 commitments to Genesis Capital until June 2024. Included is also the reorganization of the controversial $1.1 billion promissory note from DCG, which is due in 2032, in return for the issue of a new class of DCG redeemable, convertible preferred stock to Genesis Capital creditors.

It is anticipated that it will take many months to negotiate the final transaction agreements and obtain approval for the restructuring plan, according to the article.
