Meta platforms INC, formally known as Facebook, has submitted opposition to the NuGenesis MetaRealm trademark.
who was the forefather of meta realm, metaverse, or meta processing?
In 1990, few knew what the term virtual reality meant let alone what the letters VR represented.
Even in the twenty-first century, most people mistakenly believe this to be just games.
The aim was to progress technology, ultimately making computers easier to use.
These designs included all the trimmings that by the end of the 1990’s became obvious to any large-scale project: distributed system, shared memory, platform-independent programming languages for customization, extensible protocols, network transparency for applications, fault-tolerance, etc.
Some unique characteristics included things still uncommon in the early twenty-first century: a user-centric view of data, arbitrary information engine (handles data beyond just 3D or even n -Dimensional) and a programmable protocol for on-the-fly optimizations, among many other things.
The goal was to manipulate data in a multi-user environment distributed over a potentially wide area and permit the users to traverse, share, negotiate, and intuitively understand the information being dealt with. Such an environment would have allowed immersion such that the user would have actually participated in those manipulations rather than just wait for a result after status information has been generated.
The work being done during the early 1990s was to handle all of the issues related to this problem. The focus of the collection of papers and design, specification, and implementation of a very high-level operating system. The OS would serve as a platform for the tools and applications that could make virtual environments a reality.
The earliest vision of the MetaRealm was in fact by Daniel J Pezely as early as May 1991 MOSES - Meta Operating System & Entity Shell, 1991 (play.org) https://play.org/moses/
In 1999 the first term for a META Digital world was named the MetaRealm. The domain www.metarealm.com was first registered as early as 1999. The owner Hussein Faraj CEO NuGenesis and Advantage Group Australasia.
In 2013 Hussein Faraj CEO NuGenesis developed and introduced, the concept of MYVRR (My Virtual Reality Realm) combining the virtual realm with the theory of transaction processing on immutable systems.
In 2015 Advantage Group incorporated the ideology of blockchain technology to maintain an immutable ledger in the virtual reality realm.
in 2016 NuGenesis created its first Meta ledger blockchain prototype. Changing the name from My Virtual Reality Realm to MetaRealm.
In 2018 Advantage Group signed a strategic alliance with Piesat, Beijing PIESAT Information Technology Co., Ltd. (PIESAT for short) Which is a high-tech enterprise specializing in research and application of satellite technology (Remote sensing satellite and Navigation satellite). Founded in 2008, PIESAT provides professional services and applications for domestic satellites using its own software Pixel Information Expert (PIE), offering integrated solutions for geospatial information applications, With a team of over 1000 employees, of which over 80% are geomatics experts. To create a digital universe based on reality and data obtained from satellites ie/google maps.
in 2019 Advantage Group Australasia, commenced building its prototype for a complete digital fintech and blockchain city in Australia.
The term virtual reality was first used in a paper by Antonin Artaud in 1938. He described theatre as “la réalité virtuelle”. The first use of the term virtual reality in English was in a science fiction story by Stanley G. Weinbaum, called Pygmalion’s Spectacles, published in 1938.
The metaverse is a term coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash. He defined it as “a consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts… A graphic representation of data abstracted from the banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the non-space of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding”
Then Palmer Luckey, an 18-year-old entrepreneur, and inventor created the prototype for the Oculus Rift VR headset in 2010. With its 90-degree field of vision and use of computer processing power, the revolutionary headset reignited interest in VR.
Ernest Cline released the book Ready Player One in 2011, giving us another peek inside a completely immersive world that we could enter to escape from reality. The book became a runaway hit, and director Steven Spielberg made it into a movie in 2018.
Facebook acquired Oculus VR in 2014 in a $2 billion deal. At that time, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg stated that Facebook and Oculus would work together to build out the Oculus platform and develop partnerships to support more games.
Also in 2014 – a busy year for XR – Sony and Samsung both announced they were creating their own VR headsets, and Google released its first Cardboard device and Google Glass AR glasses. Google’s Cardboard device is a low-cost cardboard VR viewer for smartphones.
Microsoft’s HoloLens headsets hit the market in 2016, which gave us mixed reality (AR and VR) for the first time. With HoloLens, we can create a holographic image in front of us, then put it into the real world and manipulate it using augmented reality. Also in 2016, people around the world were running around in their neighborhoods trying to catch Pokémon using the Pokémon GO augmented reality game.
Swedish furniture giant IKEA joined the metaverse mix in 2017 with their innovative Place app, which allows you to select a piece of furniture and view what it looks like in your home or office.
In 2020, Apple added Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) to iPhones and iPads, creating better depth scanning for better photos and AR, and also paving the way for mixed-reality headsets in the future.
Facebook changed its name to Meta in 2021, indicating its focus on shaping the future of the metaverse. Two companies also launched smart glasses (Ray-Ban Stories) or highly portable virtual reality headsets that look like sunglasses (HTC’s Vive Flow).
So shadowing the battle between NuGenesis and Meta Platforms, it will be interesting to see Meta Platform INC formally known as Facebook, battle NuGenesis for the title of Meta supremacy, or will this battle end, with the realm and universe forming a new concept. The Meta World.
